The reason I'm against the death penalty is based on my perception and understanding of the Bible.  I am a Christian, and I try to make my decisions in life based on what Jesus wants me to do.  I fail often, but I try.

So, let's consider what Jesus really wants us to do.  Can we drop all our baggage, and meet here, in scripture to make an informed decision on the "Death Penalty"?

Jesus is merciful.  Shouldn't we also be merciful?

The Scripture:

Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written:  "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.

John 8:7
They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!"
